Wayne L Jones and Joan Jones Riegel Scholarship

The Wayne L Jones and Joan Jones Riegel Scholarship Fund was establish to honor the parents of Larry R Jones and Paul W Jones.

Wayne L. Jones owned an insurance business in Harrisburg. He was elected City Commissioner in 1971 prior to his death, at age 46, in August of that year. Joan Jones Riegel was left with 4 children to raise and educate. She worked primarily at the The Daily Register newspaper and also served as Treasurer for the city of Harrisburg. All four of their children completed 4 year college degrees and went on to have successful careers.

This scholarship program has been established to serve as a lasting tribute of Wayne L Jones and Joan Jones Riegel.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Harrisburg High School senior, continuing education as a freshmen at a 4 year college or university
  • Demonstrated academic achievement
  • Financial need
  • Exhibits character, ability, and potential¬†¬†

Requirements

  • Recommendation letters from each of the following:
    • Teacher
    • Community Member
  • Essay, 500 words or less on following topic:
    • What are my goals and how I plan to achieve them
  • Describe community involvement, services performed and civic participation
  • Listing of:
    • Academic Awards/Honors
    • Clubs/Societies/Organizations
